We want to create a tool that will help fat people advocate for themselves and receive care that responds to their actual needs. Join ASDAH for a free virtual community work session where fat people, health professionals, and advocates will work together to create the Still Worthy  of Care Living Community Resource.

It will support more compassionate, accessible, and responsive care for fat people living at marginalized intersections. Together, we will develop practical language, questions, strategies, and tools people can use before, during, and after healthcare encounters.

Six guided worksheet conversations will focus on:

  • BRAIN Decision Tool: Supporting informed decisions by considering Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, and what happens if you do Nothing.

  • Provider Accountability: Defining responsibility, repair, and meaningful change when care causes harm.

  • Physical Access and the Exam Room: Identifying the equipment, space, policies, and preparation required for safe and dignified care.

  • Informed Decision-Making: Supporting consent, bodily autonomy, and decisions free from coercion or weight-loss assumptions.

  • Responding When Care Causes Harm: Exploring options for safety, documentation, support, repair, and escalation.

  • Self-Advocacy: Developing language for asking questions, setting boundaries, requesting accommodations, and redirecting care.

*Make sure you're opted in for all emails. We will send worksheets closer to the event date.*

The work session will center people most affected by medical fatphobia, including superfat and infinifat people, Black, Indigenous, Latine, and other people of color, queer and trans people, disabled and neurodivergent people, and people living with mental health struggles or chronic illness.

This is a collaborative workshop, not a presentation. Participants can speak, contribute through the Zoom chat, listen, reflect, take breaks, or come and go as needed. The session will not be recorded.

Relevant ideas shared during the worksheet discussions will be combined with other participants’ contributions for inclusion in the toolkit. Names and direct quotations will not be published without separate permission.

Come help us build a resource shaped by collective knowledge, bodily autonomy, healing-centered care, and the experiences of fat people.
